Let's start with a little bit of backstory... I started dreaming of my wedding at some point in my childhood. The first time I really started making firm plans, I was about sixteen. I knew that I was going to get married in April 2010, when I was 25, and my flowers were going to be lilacs. I was going to have a corset-backed custom designed (BY ME) dress. I don't really remember much else I decided, but the dress fell by the wayside eventually. (Have you ever priced out doing that?? It's ridiculous!)
Nevertheless, the month and flower have been set for quite a long time. The rest of the plans have fallen into place fairly quickly, mostly because at work I'm bored in front of the internet so often.
We booked out venue by the end of March. We knew what the menu was going to be by right around then, too. I had some loose ideas for flowers (bouquets and centerpieces). I had surveyed the David's Bridal website and picked out my two absolute favorite gowns, along with my favorite bridesmaid dresses. I started to survey cute save-the-date magnets and pretty invitations. I knew everything I wanted.
Last week, Mom, Michelle, and I went to David's Bridal, and I tried on seven different dresses, just in case my favorites didn't look as good on me as they did on the models. Turns out, they look better on me. I ordered the very first dress I found months ago... Guess I know myself pretty well. It's perfect and I can't wait to wear it for Alex.
Today, we had our engagement photo shoot. Yes, on Father's Day (sorry, Dad!) but it was the only day that worked for us and our photographer (Tina Staffieri). We went to Cascade Falls at Patapsco Valley State Park, and took a bunch of pictures in and around the falls. That's right, I said IN. I have a very sodden dress drip-drying at home right now. I have high hopes for these pictures and as soon as I get some of them, we'll be putting together our save the date magnets and mailing those out. They're pretty. Alex thinks they're really girly. Well, pbbbbtttttttt. So what? They're pretty.
Excitement!
